The gurogram can accommodate the richest and largest firms in India, but its infrastructure is “weak”, and the country’s construction is “the worst”, says author and entrepreneur Suhel Seth in blisting urban planning and management in India.
Speaking of Annie’s podcast, the set did not stay. “We have the worst construction engineers in India. Absolutely. We have destroyed the use of technology in civil planning and infrastructure. We have no care,” he said.
Drawing a sharp contrast to China, Seth recalled a trip with the British Airways Advisory Board in Beijing – years before the Olympics. “When we got to the airport, we saw 60% of that closed. I asked why. They said it was planned for 2040. In India, we are still building with the use of thinking of 1947,” he noted.
A set, known for its open views, zero of the gurogram – a city that claims to embody infrastructure failures in India. “Some of India’s largest companies are based-like-cola, hey, heromotor, Apollo, Max, Fortis. But the city lacks even basic infrastructure. That’s bizarre. The richest people live in surrounding environments.”
He criticized the myth of the origin of the gurogram, pointing out that it was not built by the vision of politics, but by corporate overflow. “It has not grown because of Hindustan’s lever. It grew because GA and Genpact came in first for office operations. The city was evolving around it, not planning.”
This is not the first widespread set against NCR. In the recent post of X, he ridiculed the chronic flooding in the region: “NDR is the only place on the planet that boasts two writers side by side. Gurogram and Delhi.” He also called him a “shame on this country” in a panel hosted by the Indian Express.
“Every year, without government help, we create Venice for people to enjoy,” he said, pointing to flooded streets, trash piles and bizarre statistics that alcohol exceeds working traffic lights in the city. His solution: “Non-Hostile Download” to restore basic management and responsibility.
“We have become a country of suffering and suffering,” Seth concluded, calling for leadership and urgent overhaul of how India builds and maintains its cities.
