A banker in Mumbai, who reserved a place in the recent show of comedian Kunal Camra unexpectedly, was in the middle of a legal investigation, causing public attention and a gesture of regret from Kamra himself.
After reports emerged that the man was summoned as a witness after a police case against Kamra, the comedian took to X to answer. “I am deeply sorry for the inconvenience attending my show. Please, send me -the point so I can schedule your next vacation wherever you want in India,” he wrote.
Kamra also shared a media report that said the banker had to shorten his vacation after receiving police invitations. The man, who booked his ticket through Bookmyshow, received the notification on March 29, a day after FIR was filed against Camra at the Mumbai Police Station.
The Complaint Albania, filed by Shiv Senna MPA Murji Patel, accused Camra of defamation for a parody song performed on the show. Until the verses named the Deputy Minister Equip Shinde directly, they seemed to target and mark a traitor.
The Navy Mumbai -based banker reportedly was asked to appear so that police could make statements from those attending the performance. A senior officer confirmed that the invitation was first announced by phone before the official notice was issued.
However, police later informed the banker that his appearance was not immediately necessary and could be sought again depending on the progress of the case. However, reports point out that the man, who was due to return from his holiday on April 6, has already shortened his trip and returned to Mumbai on Monday.
Police have denied claims that all audiences of the show were called.
The case has drawn attention not only to its legal implications, but also for its political background. Last month, angry workers at Shiv Senna vandalized the studio where the show was filmed.
The Madras High Court granted a temporary bail to Camra on March 28. The court issued a report to the Kar police and scheduled the issue of further hearing on April 7.
