When the Union Trade Minister, Piush Goyal, took over the stage of Delhi’s startup, Mahakumb, 2025, he did not abstain. Taking a direct target towards the country’s current initial focus, he wondered if India is hyper-delivering applications for building content and platforms, while China advanced with discoveries in AI, EV and semiconductors. His remarks have caused a sharp debate – between ambition and accessibility, between dreaming of large and creating jobs now.
The issue of Goyal’s shown – “Should we make ice cream (delivery applications) or make chips (ie semiconductors)?” – Guess a nerve. He criticized the over -the -line of services designed for comfort, saying, “Are you proud to be creating boys and girls for delivery?” Quoting India’s home power, he called on the pivot for “real economic productivity”.
Support to Minister Harsh Goena, president of RPG Enterprises, stepped on to contextualize the message. “When Murti and Subrahmanan talked about 70-90 hours working weeks and Pijush Goal questioned startups making vegan ice cream and chasing 10-minute deliveries, they were not literal-they were directed,” he wrote at X.
Goyal is also aimed at internet betting applications, many of which have attracted an overview of alleged money laundering, calling for startups to get rid of short -term tricks and to focus instead of building the needle.
But not everyone was on the ship. Social media users have called on what they considered to be excluded between government rhetoric and land realities. “What can we say when the government itself is affected by supporting the culture of the Revadi?” Read one post. “At least the beginners they do is ensure the employment of millions.”
Another user has prompted the idea of changing from above: “Easy to blame others. Overdue brains, reservations in everything, improving infra, investments, taxes, education policies, bureaucracy. The ease of everything is the key.”
Others pointed to deeper systemic problems. “We are far behind to adapt innovation in technology,” one wrote, arguing of a complete overhaul of India’s education system. Another noted that although the species is vital, the present cannot be ignored: “Even as we strive for DeepTech … We need to encourage delivery applications and e -commerce … They generated more than 10 arc employees.”
And in perhaps the oldest summary at the moment, one user wrote: “Think great or stay small. Ice cream and speed excite the values of spikes but have no depth. The value lies in transformative technology.”
