(Reuters) – Belgian banks – Argentina, Bank Van Breda, Bebank, Krylan and the Acting Bank – said on Monday Monday that they are joining the European Payment Initiative and using EPA’s digital wallet next year.
Why is it important:
Epis was founded by European banks in an attempt to compete with US companies’ dominance and MasterCard.
Epis has in the past been hit by some other banks leaving their network.
Key quotes:
“By integrating Wero into our 2026 offer, we will strengthen our clients – entrepreneurs and liberal professions – with a fast, secure and intuitive way to manage their payments that is fully harmonized with their daily needs,” said Bank CEO Van Breda.
According to the numbers:
According to EPI, the Wero’s digital wallet that started last year already has 40 million registered users across Belgium, France and Germany.
