Minister of the Union for Road, Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said on Saturday that the government should introduce national toll policy on national highways that would provide a reasonable concession, which would greatly facilitate passengers.
Speaking at BT Mindrush 2025 in Mumbai, the Trade Union Minister said politics is ready and is expected to be announced before April 1. He did not share more details on politics, but that people would no longer argue about toll rates on national highways.
“Ille declaring toll policy before April 1. He will offer a reasonable deviation to passengers,” Gadkari said.
Speaking at Lock Sabha on Thursday, the minister said the government plans to introduce an annual passage system to replace the toll collection on national highways, improve operational efficiency and promote practicality for road users.
The Transport Ministry has also invited for proposal (RFP) to Implement Automatic Number Plate Recognition (Anpry Uer-Ii and Dwarka Expressway, “with the possibility of implementing it on other fee plazas in a phased manner depending upon the outcomes and efficacy of the implementation on these projects.
Speaking at the event, Gadkari said there was no lack of money, but there was a need to increase the spending of budget allocation.
“Currently, the NHAI toll income is 55,000 Rs and the next two years, it will be 1.40 arc.
The minister said he would like the poor to invest in highway construction and offer 8.05% interest compared to 4.5% offered by deposit banks. He also talked about 36 Green Express highways built to drastically reduce logistics costs.
