The Delhi High Court on Monday dismissed the petition filed by the Turkish aviation firm “Celebi Aerodrom Services India PVT DOO”, causing the government’s decision to revoke security approval from national security grounds. Justice Sachin Data rejected petitions submitted by airports in Selebi, India PVT DOO and Cargo -Thermal Trine of Celebi Delhi, India, PVT DOO, which manage the handling of terrain and cargo operations at several Indian airports. The verdict was reserved on May 23.
The Civil Aviation Safety Bureau (BCAS) withdrew Celebi’s security permission on May 15, citing interests in national security. The decision came after Turkey’s open support for Pakistan and condemns India’s strikes for terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POC), which sparked public outrage in India.
Celebi, part of Turkey’s Celebi Group, has operated in the India sector in aviation for more than 15 years and employs more than 10,000 people at nine airports. The withdrawal security permit was granted on November 2022.
The Central Government Council has defended the revocation, which says there is a “unprecedented threat” to aviation security demanding urgent action. In Affaira submitted on May 19, the Center said the permit was withdrawn on the basis of specific entrances indicating that the continuation of Celeb’s services would pose risks under current circumstances.
The Celebi Council claims that the government’s move has violated the principles of natural justice and the procedure under aircraft safety rules. He said that BCA Director General should issue a notice, give the opportunity to hear and record reasons before taking such a step.
The government retains security permission has been revoked “with an immediate effect in the interest of national security”. The Aviation Ministry and younger Aviation Minister Murlidar Mohol also defended the decision, citing public demands to ban Jeleb due to Turkey’s stance on Pakistan.
With the dismissal of the High Court, the order to dismiss BCAS stands, directly affecting Celebi’s work in India. The detailed verdict will be set soon.
