China is not like what the West would want anyone to believe, claims Chinese rapper, singer and songwriter Acksex Wang, also a K-Pop. He said that China is a “normal” place and for one to shed in advance ideas, they will have to visit the country.
Wang, who lives in Shanghai with his parents, told Raj Shamani in his podcast “understood”, that unlike popular belief, there were no restrictions on speech in China. When Shamani asked the world that was wrong with China, Wang said: “It’s a normal place and I think you know there are many things out of our control.”
“You have to go there than just listen to it. You have to come to Shanghai, go to Jongqing, go to Chengdu, go to Guangzhou, go to Beijing, go to the big Wallid … just come and feel and see.
Wang said that someone is posting a video online, scattering with stereotypes, and it gets their own life, and the misinformation is spreading. He said he saw “horrible things” for his home country. “I think I live in Shanghai for myself, I don’t think it’s true,” he explained. Wang said many of the videos he saw spin around the Chinese food elections and the places where they were cooked. He said such stereotypes can come from any part of the world.
“We’re not in play, right? Then everything is perfect, structured and built perfectly. No, we’re on the ground man. And I think there are so many misconceptions,” he said. “Come and see first, come and see. And you will have a better understanding. Have you have a better personal experience you see yourself, not what other people say,” he said.
Asked what to say about the assumption that he is “soft power”, playing a prominent role in shaping China’s pop culture in the global world, Wang said: “I just represent where I am, my hometown, don’t I know about anything else. I don’t even want to comment on it.”
